Having lived in the area all my life, I feel I know the area pretty well.
I went to school in Tolworth, played football for the Tolworth Little League and then went on to join the Air Training Cadets in Hook Rise South. I spent two years as a Special Constable with the Metropolitan Police and feel that this experience has given me a good understanding of safety concerns that people have and issues that matter to communities. I am looking forward to working with the local Safer Neighbourhood Team.
I first became involved with the local Focus Team when the Playscape in Jubilee Way was being considered. Being young myself at the time, it was great to see an innovative new play area being created for young people especially with the Skate Bowl. Ensuring there are good facilities for young people is very important to me.
During the time I have been involved with the Liberal Democrats I have seen how hard they work for the local community. They keep in touch with residents and do their best to address local concerns.
I have lived in the area now for nearly 20 years with my partner and our 7 year old daughter.
I initially got involved locally when our area was threatened with the ‘waste site facility’ and attended a meeting to find out what it entailed. I was appalled that our area might be selected to have this site and realised that by setting up a Residents Association we would be heard louder. We fought and we won.
I have also been part of the THR Safer Neighbourhood Police panel, letting them know of the worries and concerns we all have and helping to set their priorities each quarter.
Since joining the Liberal Democrat team I have been out talking to residents on the doorstep, finding out what issues they have, be it broken recycling bins, street lights not working or overgrown neighbours gardens, to the bigger issues with highway problems or finding out what services are available for young people. I’m now really enjoying listening and helping residents.
As my daughter grows up I would like her to live in a nice, safe environment and I believe we have that in Hook, Chessington, Surbiton and Tolworth and I will continue to ensure it stays that way.
I have lived in the area for nearly 35 years with my wife and daughter. I have worked in the computer industry for over 40 years gaining invaluable experience in finance, projects and management.
Being a community minded person, I was involved in setting up and developing voluntary organisations providing educational, social and recreational activities for the welfare of the community in the past 30 years. Working with a variety of voluntary organisations has helped me to understand and experience local people and the issues.
Since joining the Liberal Democrats Focus team, I have been actively involved in surveying local residents to find out their concerns and issues.
It is very satisfying to help resolving the issues and make a difference to people’s lives. I also attend the Tolworth safer neighbourhood police team meetings to raise the concerns of residents and work with the local police team to make our area safer.
With this background, hard work and commitment, I feel I can contribute more to making Tolworth and Hook Rise Ward a great place to play, live and work by being at the centre of decision-making in Kingston.
